I’ve photographed weddings at Tunnels Beaches and it’s one of those venues that stands out straight away. If you want a wedding that feels relaxed, full of energy and shaped by the coastline, this place delivers.

Built directly into the cliffs, with its own private beach and tidal pool, everything happens in one space. No moving parts, no downtime, just a day that flows naturally from start to finish.

If you don’t like the idea of posing and want your day captured as it actually happens, you’re in the right place.

What a wedding at Tunnels Beaches actually feels like

A wedding here feels immersive. Guests arrive and quickly settle into the space rather than moving between locations. With on-site accommodation right at the entrance, people are already together before the day begins, which changes the atmosphere straight away.

Ceremonies are often outdoors in the thatched gazebo, with uninterrupted sea views. Even when things move inside, nothing is lost, the backdrop is still the coastline.

After the ceremony, everything opens up. Drinks spill onto the terrace, people move between the building, the firepit and the beach, and the whole thing shifts into something closer to a beach party than a formal reception.

How the day flows at Tunnels Beaches

The biggest difference here is flow.

There’s no travel between locations, no waiting around, and no feeling of the day being broken into sections. Guests spread out, move freely and use the space naturally.

Shoes come off. People head down to the beach between drinks. Some take quiet moments by the water, others stay close to the music and bar. Because many guests are staying on site or nearby, the energy holds and people don’t disappear early.

As the evening builds, everyone naturally filters back inside and the dancefloor takes over, often while the last of the daylight is still coming through the windows.

Photography at Tunnels Beaches

From a photography point of view, everything is right there.

The building is full of natural light, the interiors have character without being distracting, and the coastline gives constant options without needing to travel. The tunnel, terrace, beach and tidal pool all work without interrupting the flow of the day.

I won’t pull you away for long or turn it into a photoshoot. Most of the time, it’s about letting things happen and stepping in briefly when it makes sense.

Sunset is where the venue really comes into its own. When the timing and tides line up, the tidal pool wall with the sun dropping into the sea is consistently one of the best moments of the day.

Things to consider when planning a Tunnels Beaches wedding

There are a couple of things that make a big difference here.

Tide times matter just as much as sunset. Access to the beach and tidal pool changes throughout the day, so if those photos are important, it’s worth planning around them.

Because everything happens in one place, the day moves quickly. That’s a good thing, but it helps to allow space in the timeline so nothing feels rushed.

Outdoor areas quieten down later in the evening due to noise limits, so the energy naturally shifts indoors as the night goes on.

Is Tunnels Beaches the right venue for you?

• want a relaxed, social atmosphere

• prefer a day that flows rather than follows a strict structure

It’s less suited to couples looking for a very traditional, formal setup or a fully indoor venue.
