a touch of class in the exe valley
Pynes House in Devon has proper history, dating back to the Norman period with a royal connection, and it shows. Sweeping tree lined drive, grand Regency front, rolling Exe Valley hills behind it. But the best bit is how it flips from classy country house to full-on party mode once your wedding arrives. It’s a venue where you get exclusive use for the weekend and has 12 individually designed bedrooms so your nearest stays under one roof, so you can have your favourite people stay with you throughout the celebration.
This venue works well for what I provide (and I think is the closest wedding venue to my house) I cover the whole day (or full weekend), no set cut-offs, making sure everything is covered, documenting everything you plan and everything you don’t.
Why Pynes House Works So Well
It’s grand without feeling stuffy. Huge windows in the State Rooms and Drawing Room flood the place with soft natural light (perfect indoor backup when it rains), the Rose Garden and terrace are an ideal spot for afternoon drinks and canapés there are huge lawns for a marquee if you want extra space, and little woodland pockets for quiet shots. The Drawing Room is the perfect spot for your ceremony if you planned to get married inside and the ball room make for a great dance floor, the place works really well and the key thing for me is based on what’s available, it flows really well. From a photography point of view, we are spoiled for choice, all the rooms provide amazing natural light so no worries if you end up having to stay inside, the views from the gardens create depth and really do make you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. And the driveway, this is the money shot, the long tree lined drive with the house behind in the golden hour light pretty much ticks the box for epic couple shots.
Best Photo Spots at Pynes House
These are the spots I always make sure we hit:
Tree-lined drive & front courtyard, arrivals, outdoor ceremonies, golden-hour strolls with the bridal party
Rose Garden & terrace, drinks, relaxed couple shots, champagne moments
Drawing Room & State Rooms, soft light through big windows, staircase first-looks or couple portraits, cake display overlooking the Exe Valley
Ballroom, speeches, dance-floor energy, evening party vibe
Lawns, grounds & woodland, wandering shots, group photos with rolling hills, drone overviews
Tip: Light in the Exe Valley is always changing, golden hour on the tree lined drive is a treat so ensure you look at the time the sun sets on your wedding and put that into your plans if it’s important to you. And if it does rain, the Drawing Room and State Rooms still look class indoors.

The following photos are from my most memorable wedding at Pynes House. Sophie White is one of, if not the best and most well respected MUAs in Devon. She is also a mate and someone I have worked with many times, so when she asked me to photograph her and Alex’s wedding, I was chuffed to bits, I knew it was going to be amazing and it was beyond that! Using Pynes House to it’s full potential, it was one of my favourite weddings ever! Full of amazing people and full of fun, it’s one I will never forget.
Here are some other Devon and Cornwall wedding venues like Huntsham Court and Rockbeare Manor. Here you can find out more about what I provide and packages or lets talk about your wedding at Pynes House
