Froginwell vineyard Wedding Photogrpaher
a hidden gem with a real festival feel
Every time I make my way down the driveway to Froginwell Vineyard I get the same reaction. You turn in expecting something fairly modest, then suddenly the landscape opens up and you realise just how much space there is and how amazing it all looks and feels. The setting works perfectly for a celebration. It feels like you’ve discovered somewhere hidden in plain sight.
The main hub of the venue is the Cider Barn. It’s been converted really well, big windows, high ceilings and loads of natural light. From the outside it looks like a typical Devon barn, but inside it’s much larger than you’d expect, and once guests are inside it quickly fills with energy and a real buzz.
Connie and Ali run Froginwell and they’ve clearly put a lot of care into the place. Constantly improving and making each wedding work even better than before. Nothing feels overly formal, which suits the type of weddings people tend to have here.
The whole site is yours for the day, and there’s plenty of space to use. Guests spread out naturally rather than being contained in one area. Some people settle on the terrace, others wander through the orchard or across the fields, while many make the most of the garden and fire pit area drinking, eating and catching up.
Most couples get ready nearby, often at Sanctuary Sleeps next door, which works really well. Close enough to feel like you’re already at the wedding but separated enough to give everyone their own calm space to get ready.
Ceremonies can happen indoors in the Cider Barn or outside when the weather’s good. The outdoor ceremonies work particularly well because of the natural flow from the barn to the ceremony space, and with the vineyard and countryside as a backdrop it looks fantastic in every direction. After the ceremony people spread out across the grounds and the whole place takes on a relaxed, almost festival-like feel.
Food is usually brought in by external caterers using the on-site kitchen, which means couples can choose exactly the style they want. The wedding breakfast is always great with a real communal feel.
The parties at Froginwell Vineyard are always awesome. There’s a dedicated dance space inside the barn but the celebration rarely stays in one place. Guests drift outside for air, minging in the gardens and chilling around the fire pits, and the terrace becomes a quieter spot for people catching up.
From a photography perspective the grounds give loads of options without needing to disappear for ages. The vineyard rows, orchard and wildflower fields all work brilliantly, especially in the evening light. Couples often appreciate having a short breather away from the crowd while we take a few relaxed portraits.
Froginwell tends to attract couples who want a wedding that feels personal and a bit different. It suits people who like the countryside, want their guests to relax and spread out, and aren’t too concerned about sticking to overly formal traditions. There’s usually a strong sense of people doing things their own way.
